A tooth extraction involves the removal of the tooth from the mouth’s supporting structure. Despite the fear many people have at the prospect of a tooth extraction, the process is relatively simple and inexpensive.
Sometimes a tooth has been badly injured or extensively damaged, broken, or chipped and it cannot be saved. Other times there is severe tooth decay that cannot be repaired, advanced periodontal disease, or a tooth is badly positioned in the mouth so it should be removed to undertake other dental procedures, such as orthodontic treatment. With children, extraction may sometimes be necessary to allow for the eruption of new teeth and to help those teeth grow into their normal position.
An X-ray will be taken to assess the position of the tooth roots and the condition of the surrounding bone. Our team will also conduct a thorough medical and drug history to ensure that you are healthy enough to undergo the procedure. Usually, a tooth extraction is carried out with local anesthesia, but other sedatives can also be administered when necessary. Whatever anesthesia or sedatives are used, we are committed to ensuring that you are comfortable, safe, and pain-free throughout the entire procedure. Once you are comfortable and frozen, our dentist will delicately remove your tooth while being careful not to damage the bone that surrounds it.
